A MORE PERFECT UNION

As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding, this season invites reflection—not celebration without critique, and not critique without hope. A More Perfect Union is not a patriotic series, but a Christ-centered one. Using Scripture alongside formative voices and documents from American history, we will explore how faith has challenged, confronted, and called this nation toward its better self.

In the Wesleyan tradition, we hold together personal faith and social holiness, believing that following Jesus shapes not only our hearts, but the world we help create. John Wesley himself had a complicated relationship with American independence—he opposed the Revolution, believing it violated Christian principles of submission to authority. His example reminds us that faithful Christians have always disagreed about national identity, and that our ultimate allegiance is to the Kingdom of God, not any earthly nation.
